Women broadcasters in Asia-Pacific are invited to attend a radio seminar titled "Women Making Airwaves for Peace" (WMAP) on the role of community radio in peace building and disaster management. The seminar is being held October 10 to 13 in Bangalore, India; the deadline for applications is July 5.
The seminar will be a space where participants share experiences, enabling community radio to empower women in crisis situations. The seminar will be conducted in English.
Thirty women community radio broadcasters will be selected from the Asia Pacific, preferably with experience in situations of armed conflict and natural disasters. Participants from all of the Asia Pacific are welcome to attend. However, they will cover their own travel expenses, while the seminar sponsors can grant subsidies for board and lodging. Scholarships are limited to participants from South East Asia and the Pacific sub-regions.
Selected participants are expected to share their experiences and skills as trainers during the WMAP seminar, mount radio productions in their local language during and after the seminar, echo their learnings with their colleagues in their radio station, document their best practices by contributing to the publications of Isis International and helping disseminate it.
