Panama workshop to train in police, court journalism

A seminar-workshop in Panama City, on November 23 and 24, will train Latin American journalists to cover crime and violence, with the goal of contributing to human rights, legality and conflict resolution through journalism.

Participants will learn about citizen security and criminal justice issues, with theoretical and practical materials that are useful for news reporting, writing and publishing.

The agenda will feature themes including legality, democracy and the media; the penal media system; public safety and criminal justice: a right or social control?; the new challenges posed by the organized crime and the official authoritative discourse; ethics and social responsibility; techniques for violence reporting, and more.

Registration is ongoing, and costs range from US$500 to US$1,000. The seminar is organized by Panama's Centro Latinoamericano de Periodismo (CELAP).
