Grants available for human rights, free speech projects in Central Asia
Posted on: 13/01/2010 Deadline: 31/03/2010 Country: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, TajikistanJournalism and non-profit organizations in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tadjikistan are encouraged to apply for grants to expand human rights, support independent media and develop effective public policy. Deadline to apply: March 31.
Grants will total €50,000 (about US$72,500), offered through the government of the Netherlands.
Applications are accepted in Russian and English.

- I think women are achieving success day by day in all fields. They already proved that they cab jack of all trades. Currently there are no differences between a man and woman. I have heard women in journalism refer to the stern reprimands, often unjust, with much the same pride men sometimes refer to jacketings received during apprentice days, and, like the men, attribute their ultimate success to such stern discipline, on the assumption that sparing the metaphorical rod would have the same effect upon the woman as upon the child. But once a woman always a woman, and it is a matter of doubt whether any of us ever overcome the natural weakness, if weakness it be, of love of the approving pat. I can even see how mistaken kindness and undue consideration might encourage the timid woman to do her best, when being "treated exactly like a man," which would be license to swear at her, might frighten her out of the wits she would stand most in need of. Asia and the Pacific, Eastern Europe-Central Eurasia, Latin America, Middle East and North Africa, North America, Sub-Saharan Africa, Western Europe, Worldwide - Portuguese speaking journalism educators with at least two years of experience are encouraged to apply for the online course "Journalism 2.0 for Instructors." The course, sponsored by the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas, is offered in Portuguese and spans four weeks. Applications can be submitted until March 21 at 10 p.m.
