Legal defense available for journalists through new organization
Posted on: 17/11/2009 Region: WorldwideA non-government organization that provides legal support to media professionals was recently launched in London. The Media Legal Defence Initiative (MLDI) aims to protect free expression around the world.
Support services include legal fees, legal advice, strategic litigation and media law training. It also provides for an exchange of experiences among media lawyers.
MLDI previously worked to defend defamation suits in Thailand and the Phillipines.

Asia and the Pacific, Eastern Europe-Central Eurasia, Latin America, Middle East and North Africa, North America, Sub-Saharan Africa, Western Europe, Worldwide - Portuguese speaking journalism educators with at least two years of experience are encouraged to apply for the online course "Journalism 2.0 for Instructors." The course, sponsored by the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas, is offered in Portuguese and spans four weeks. Applications can be submitted until March 21 at 10 p.m.

This kind of NGO's are really essential to provide legal support to the media professionals.The expression of the media people should be respected in every part of the world.I must say that the proper security systems should be given to the media people including legal fees, advice and media training. MLDI has also provided the medium of experience exchange among the media lawyers which is the very important part of the organization.
