The Ukrainian government has announced plans to launch a public broadcasting service in 2010. According to Taras Petriv, the head of the National Commission for Freedom of Speech and Development of the Information Sphere, the introduction of the service signifies political courage and successful management.
However, the first deputy head of the parliamentary commitee for freedom of speech and information thinks financing, staff policy and editorial policy for the public broadcasting service should be independent.
