Egyptian youth and women invited to amateur reporting training

Egyptian youth (ages 15 to 33) and women who are not professional journalists but who can demonstrate a keen interest in amateur reporting are invited to apply for an 11-month training program from January to September 2010. Deadline: December 15.

Participants will learn how to report on a variety of social, gender, environmental and political issues of importance during the upcoming 2010 parliamentary elections in Egypt. Trainees will learn how to provide professional multimedia content that can be published by Egyptian media.

Training on basic journalism skills, journalism ethics, and multimedia skills, as well as on important social issues, will be given throughout January and June 2010. Trainees will then work for three months with  partner media organizations to produce stories on issues of interest to the general Egyptian public.

Youth and women who already report on Egypt through blogs, twitter and their facebook accounts will be given priority. Applicants must demonstrate a clear commitment to attending workshops on some weekends and weeknights during the months of January through June 2010.
