Journalism workshops to be held in Tehran
Posted on: 17/11/2008 Basic Journalism Deadline: 20/11/2008 Region: Middle East and North AfricaThe Center for Media Studies and Research in Iran will hold a series of journalism workshops in conjunction with the 15th Press Festival in Tehran. The deadline to apply to take part is November 20.
The topics of the workshops include photojournalism, reporting, writing and digital journalism. The workshops will be held on the sidelines of the press festival, which started on November 16 and will continue until November 22.
In addition to 560 local particpants, this year's event includes the participation of publishers from 27 countries.

Asia and the Pacific, Eastern Europe-Central Eurasia, Latin America, Middle East and North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, Worldwide - BBC is seeking short (no longer than 2 minutes) documentary video entries about "how you see the world." Deadline: March 12. Applicants can use any type of camera, including a mobile phone, a point-and-click, or a friend's camcorder. Entries must be sent in any of the following formats: avi, mov, wmv, mp4, mpg, flv, 3gp, wav, mp3 or wma.
- Competition in Russia honors the anniversary of the end of Great Patriotic War

- Young writers -- from middle school to university students -- and writers in the general public are invited to submit entries to a competition devoted to victory in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945). Deadline: March 15, 2010. The competition aims to create the national electronic Book of Memory.

- Hate speech or no speech?

- I think, media should not be the carrier of hate speech in any way. That is against journalistic values and norms... As mentioned here, I have found that in those countries where there is ultra nationalistic feelings like in Communist country or the people with that ideology. They cannot accept the ylodopposing views and opinions. Diverse media should be there but it does not mean hate speech. It is better no media than hate speech media as it sparks violence and murder and disintegrates society . Media should certainly present diversity of views and opinions but it should be within the realm of journalistic ethics. We are not living in the medieval period or nor in the stone age therefore all should accept the norms being within certain rules and regulations. Hate speech carrier media should be banned as it is better no media than hate... media.
