Latin American journalists can compete for FNPI prizes

With the goal of honoring outstanding journalists in Latin America and promoting excellence in journalism, the ninth edition of the Nuevo Periodismo CEMEX-FNPI Awards will be held in Colombia.

The awards, an initiative of Fundación Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano (FNPI) and CEMEX of Mexico, will offer prizes in the following categories: honor, photo and text.

The CEMEX -FNPI prize consists of four honorable mentions for each category. A winner will be chosen from each category to receive US$25,000. The winner in the honor category will receive US$30,000.

Photos and texts must have been published or broadcasted between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2009.

For the honor category, submissions must include a nomination letter explaining why the candidate deserves the award, work samples, and letters of recommendation from five colleagues.

Authors must have been born or naturalized in any country in Latin America and have at least three years of professional experience.
