Latin America - With the goal of promoting radio programming in Ibero-American countries, the Margarita Xirgu contest will award the best radio fiction piece in the region. Deadline: March 18. According to Casa América, contestants must submit new works in Spanish; works should not have been committed to appear on radio or TV stations, or any editorial, theatrical, film or news organization.

Asia and the Pacific, Eastern Europe-Central Eurasia, Latin America, Middle East and North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, Worldwide - The International Institute for Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) will hold their third global online course in ICT journalism from April 20 to June 20. All interested are welcome to apply. Registration deadline: March 20. Among the topics to be covered in the course: ICT theory and concept, the impact of ICT on journalism, and how to use ICT.

- Puede que no se vea esteticamente bien. Puede que no sea del agrado de periodismo antiguo, pero vivo en una región donde tienes que sobrevivir con poca publicidad para editar tu medio. NO creo que rivalice con la ética, color un anuncio en primera página. Todo se trata además de un buen diseño. Gracias.

- Should journalists convey emotion when covering crisis events?

- It is okay for a journalist to have a sad facade when informing people about death and bloodbath. It is only desired that the journalists do not take sides and thereby abide by objectivity. While it is absolutely unnecessary to expect a journalist to express despondency when a particular political party is going through a bad phase it is okay for him to smile when his nation's PM does an extraordinary job in an international forum. Again, while it is naive of a newsman to echo the feelings of some people it is not unacceptable if he/she argues in favor of anti-terrorist activities. Hence, a journalist is supposed to be objective and not take sides when something is open to debate. That does not limit his/her expressional freedom but he can only opinionate with words or expression only when theres more than 99.9% acceptance to something and theres no scope of a debate.

- Таких журналистов надо вызывать суд и там пригвоздить. Судебные издержки за счет этого же СМИ.
